Airlie Beach supports two sailing clubs, and the smaller one is perfectly content with the arrangement. Abell Point Yacht Club has operated since 1997 as a volunteer community of cruising sailors — self-described as "yachties, young and not-so-young" — whose priorities run to friendship, relaxed competition and time on the water rather than trophy hunting.
