At 1714 Pittwater Road, Bayview Anchorage bills itself less as a marina than as a marine community, and the description holds up. The floating marina provides 62 berths for boats from 20 to 50 feet, but the real substance is the cluster of marine businesses that has grown up around the pontoons: Windcraft Yachts, Australia's largest yacht importer and the national home of Hanse, Solaris and Privilege, operates from the waterfront suites, and Smart Boating, the country's largest boat-share fleet, has run its yachts, catamarans and motorboats from here for two decades. Add a specialist rigger, a mechanical workshop, a kayak shop, a slipway operation and waterfront offices, and the marina functions as Pittwater's de facto boat-service village. The setting is classic western Pittwater: 15 nautical miles north of Sydney Harbour, with views across the water to Lion Island and the Ku-ring-gai Chase shoreline, about 40 minutes' drive from the CBD. The operator leans into environmental credentials unusual for the strip - house and marina power is sourced from 100 per cent renewables, recycling covers paper, containers, cooking oil, engine oil and batteries, and wash-down water from the slipway work area is captured and treated rather than draining to Pittwater. Marina facilities
The marina's 62 floating berths accommodate vessels from 20 to 50 feet, with permanent and casual berthing, power and water at the berth, and a holding-tank pump-out facility on site. Haul-out and underwater work is handled by Bayview Slipway Marine Services, which operates the slipway and workshop within the complex and covers cleaning, painting, antifouling and general repairs, with all wash-down water captured and treated before discharge. Marine Tune runs a mechanical and electrical workshop on site specialising in industrial and marine engines and carrying parts across brands. Ruel Rigging, operating from the marina for over 28 years, is the peninsula's established yacht rigging specialist. Windcraft Yachts sells new Hanse, Solaris and Privilege yachts from its waterfront showroom, making this the national point of entry for those brands, while Smart Boating's share fleet and the Book My Boat hire platform give owners income options on their own vessels. Paddlecraft Kayaks sells and hires kayaks and paddling gear from the marina. Summer nor-easters build through the afternoon and fade at dusk, which sets the daily rhythm for both racing and cruising. Ashore, Mona Vale's supermarkets and shops are minutes away by car, and the Pittwater Road strip between Bayview and Church Point holds several more marinas, fuel wharves and boatyards, so parts and services are close even for unusual jobs. The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club and Royal Motor Yacht Club at Newport welcome visitors for dining and fuel. Bayview's working waterfront is busiest on Friday afternoons when the share fleets and charter boats turn over, and in spring when the importer's new arrivals are commissioned. For visitors without a boat, the hire and share operators here are the main public door onto Pittwater. Visiting boats should note that the marina sits close to the western shallows, so arrivals after dark should follow the leads into the bay rather than cutting the corner.
