About Burraneer Bay Marina
Burraneer Bay Marina sits on the north-western side of Burraneer Bay, one of the pretty drowned-valley bays on the northern shore of Port Hacking, with its frontage at 48 Fernleigh Road in Caringbah South. The marina has been part of the Shire's boating scene for decades, but its modern identity dates from a multi-million dollar redevelopment completed around 2016, which rebuilt the facility into one of the most complete private marinas on the port: 100 wet berths taking boats from 15 to 60 feet, 32 swing moorings with a designated dinghy rack, a 24-hour automated fuel wharf, a boat lift and hardstand, an on-site brokerage and a kiosk. The bay itself is the attraction. Burraneer Bay faces north-west, catching the afternoon sun, with deep water close inshore, waterfront homes stepping up the hill behind and the Cronulla skyline a short distance east; Gunnamatta Bay and the Royal Motor Yacht Club are just around the point. The marina's customer base is firmly local: Shire families with cruisers and ski boats, yacht owners on the moorings, and a regular trade of Port Hacking boats calling in for fuel, which the marina serves seven days a week. The redevelopment deliberately kept the operation personal rather than corporate, and the combination of modern plant, a working brokerage in BBM Yacht Sales, and genuine all-hours fuel has made it something of a hub for the southern end of Port Hacking boating, the sort of place where a berth, a buyer, a mechanic and a tank of diesel are all available at the same address.
Marina facilities
Wet berthing covers 100 berths for vessels from 15 to 60 feet (about 4.5 to 18.3 metres), available for a night, a month or permanently, alongside 32 moorings with a designated dinghy rack and dinghy storage. The fuel wharf is a standout: a 24/7 automated station with card payment dispensing diesel, including high-flow diesel for larger cruisers, plus premium unleaded and pre-mix, with monthly fuel accounts available; Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking members receive a 25-cent-per-litre discount under a partnership arrangement. A pump-out facility handles waste, and a work berth can be hired for jobs afloat. The boat lift and hardstand cater for regular maintenance haul-outs, and the marina coordinates an extensive trade list: professional detailing, marine engineers, fibreglass and gel coat repairs, covers, electrical, mechanical and shipwright services, plus yacht management that can extend to crew replacement, system upgrades and scheduled servicing so owners arrive to a boat that is ready to go. BBM Yacht Sales, the on-site brokerage, assigns a dedicated manager to each listing and taps straight into the marina's berth-holder community for buyers and sellers. Land-side amenities include restrooms, a customer car park, and a kiosk selling bait, wake and ski gear and general accessories. Local sailing knowledge
Burraneer Bay lies on the northern shore of Port Hacking, a couple of miles inside the heads, and getting there is about as easy as coastal navigation gets. Port Hacking's entrance between Jibbon Point and the Kurnell side is deep, unbarred and well marked, and once inside, the run to Burraneer Bay passes the Cronulla shore and Gunnamatta Bay before the bay opens to port. The bay has good depth close to the marina, but its southern arm shoals, so follow the mooring fields and marks. Tides run about two metres at springs, and the whole port is sheltered water where the main seamanship issue is weekend traffic rather than weather. The local boating scene is dense and sociable: the Royal Motor Yacht Club is around the corner in Gunnamatta Bay, the Cronulla sailing and cruising clubs are close by, and on a summer Sunday the bay fills with rafted-up cruisers and families on the sand flats. Cruising destinations are close at hand. The Royal National Park shoreline across the port offers bush anchorages, the upper reaches of Port Hacking and its bays give sheltered overnight stops, and the open coast north to Sydney Harbour or south to Wollongong makes easy day hops in settled weather. Ashore, Caringbah and Cronulla cover provisioning, chandlery-adjacent shopping and dining, with Cronulla's beaches, mall and train station a short drive from Fernleigh Road. Locals will tell you the marina's fuel wharf has quietly changed boating on this side of the port, since high-flow diesel at midnight used to be something you planned around; now it is just part of the furniture, and that convenience is a large part of why the marina's berths stay full.
