This is the Cleveland Yacht Club of Queensland — not the much-searched Cleveland Yachting Club of Ohio, founded 1878, with which it is routinely confused online. The Australian club is a not-for-profit, entirely volunteer-run off-the-beach sailing club at Cleveland Point on Brisbane's Redlands Coast, and its self-described ethos is disarmingly simple: family friendly, and helping each other. Those are not just warm words. In September 2025, Australian Sailing named it the Queensland winner of its Club of the Year award in Category B, and the club went on to be a national finalist at the 2025 Australian Sailing Awards. The case for the honour rested on striking growth figures published by the governing body: membership hit 95 during 2024–25 — a record across the club's 120 years — following growth of 32 per cent in a single year and 90 per cent over two, while volunteer numbers grew by 175 per cent.
