Hervey Bay has two sailing clubs, and they divide the water by boat type. The off-the-beach sailors have Hervey Bay Sailing Club at Torquay; the trailable, keel and multihull yachts have the Hervey Bay Boat Club Yacht Squadron, an intra-club operating within The Hervey Bay Boat Club at Urangan. The squadron's address — 1 Buccaneer Drive — places it inside one of the Fraser Coast's larger club complexes, and its sailing life is organised around fortnightly Sunday racing on Hervey Bay, an annual regatta off K'gari, and a handful of winter cruise events. Its clubhouse is disarmingly modest: a converted shipping container known simply as The Container, set in the Boat Club grounds and used for race briefings, with post-race gatherings migrating to the Boat Club deck.
