About Sanctuary Cove Marina
Sanctuary Cove Marina sits at the centre of Mulpha's gated Sanctuary Cove resort on Hope Island, where the Coomera River meets the northern Broadwater. Four man-made harbours excavated through the estate hold the berths, with the marina advertising more than 480 berths across vessel classes from jet ski docks to superyacht berths handling boats up to 50 metres, including the southern hemisphere's first covered recreational berths, added in a 47-berth expansion completed in 2020 to shield larger vessels from UV, rain and hail. The marina holds Platinum-level 5 Gold Anchor accreditation, one of only two Platinum-rated marinas in Queensland, plus Superyacht Ready status and a Level 3 Clean Marina rating, and was named Marina of the Year in 2023. Its particular character comes from integration with the resort around it: berth holders step off the pontoon into the Marine Village, a waterfront precinct of around eighty specialty stores, cafes and restaurants, with the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort, two championship golf courses and a country club behind. Service style runs to valet berthing and a concierge desk rather than a self-serve yard, which suits the estate's resort rhythm. Each May the marina empties and refills for the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, the southern hemisphere's largest on-water boat display, which has run here since 1989. Clientele divides between permanent berth holders embedded in the estate's residential life, visiting cruisers using the Broadwater as a staging point, and superyachts drawn by the dockmaster service, helipad and concierge infrastructure that few Australian marinas can match.
Marina facilities
Berthing spans casual, permanent and superyacht categories, with a welcome vessel to guide arrivals and dockside assistance available around the clock. Every berth carries metered shore power from 15-amp supply up to three-phase for larger vessels, with tagged-and-tested leads mandatory, plus potable water and fob-controlled access to pontoons and the private amenities buildings, which contain toilets, hot showers and change facilities open 24 hours. The fuel wharf operates 24/7 on card swipe, dispensing fast-flow diesel at 120 litres per minute and premium unleaded, with bulk pricing available on request for fills over 1,000 litres. Black-water pump-out is arranged through partner Sweep Marine based at the Gold Coast City Marina, bookable on 0416 588 646. The laundry runs cashless via QR codes on the machines and includes powder dispensers, an iron and ironing board, and luggage trolleys wait at the marina office. Free wifi covers the Marina Village precinct, and two boom-gated car parks serve berth holders. Security combines 24-hour CCTV with roving patrols contactable on 07 5500 3355. The helipad takes advance bookings through the marina office. Long-term berth holders receive a Marina VIP card and boat show ticket allocations, and a free day-visitor mooring operates between 7am and 5pm. Maintenance is covered by The Boat Works yard in the adjacent Coomera marine precinct, while the Harbour Master's jetty offers a supermarket for provisioning and, on selected Fridays to Sundays, fresh seafood sold straight off the trawler. Chandlery, brokerage, marine electronics and engineering trades all operate within the village or the neighbouring marine precinct.
Local sailing knowledge
Sanctuary Cove is reached either up the Coomera River from the Broadwater or directly from the north Broadwater channels, with no bridge or height restrictions on either route; dredged entrances carry vessels of superyacht draft, and the marina monitors VHF channel 73 for arriving traffic. The position is strategically useful: the Gold Coast Seaway and the open Pacific are roughly 45 minutes south, while northward the Broadwater runs toward Jumpinpin and eventually Moreton Bay, making the marina a natural pause for yachts migrating with the seasons. The Coomera River itself has been under a long-term government dredging program, and skippers should still hold the beacons, as banks shift between campaigns. Ashore, everything from a pharmacy to bottle shops and waterfront dining sits inside the estate, and Hope Island and Coomera's big-box retail and chandlery corridor is a short drive or tender run for heavier provisioning. The upper Coomera is worth an afternoon's exploring past the Sanctuary Cove reach, though depths thin quickly beyond the marine precinct, and lunch anchorages off Tipplers Passage and the Jumpinpin flats lie within an easy half-day round trip. The estate's origins are recent by coastal standards: developed from grazing land in the late 1980s, Sanctuary Cove was Australia's first fully integrated residential resort, and the marina's four harbours were dug rather than found, which is why the basins hold such uniform depth and orientation. Visiting crews should book ahead in May, when the boat show commandeers the harbour, and in the December-to-February peak when Broadwater traffic is at its thickest.
