The facility occupies Wharf 6 on deep water with road access straight off Victoria Road, and it wears its working-port heritage openly: wharf fendering rated for vessels to 6,000 tonnes, a fuel berth that can take ships to 70 metres, and a yard that has collected multiple industry awards for boat maintenance. Alongside the boatyard sits Sydney Harbour Boat Storage, the dry stack operation that made the site famous among time-poor Sydney boat owners - call ahead and the boat is waiting in the water; hand it back and it disappears into the racks. The customer mix is unusually broad: trailer-boat owners escaping ramp queues, racing yachts in for a pre-season antifoul, Riviera and Maritimo owners on service schedules, and commercial operators bunkering fuel at commercial flow rates. With only around 12 wet berths to 26 metres, overnight berthing is a sideline; the business is lifting, fuelling, storing and fixing. A VIP customer lounge and reserved parking soften the industrial edges, and the location between Balmain and the city makes it the closest full-service yard to the CBD on the harbour's south-western side. The yard's lifting capability anchors everything: two marine travel lifts haul boats to 80 feet and 60 tonnes, backed by two Wiggins Marina Bull forklifts - purpose-built boat handlers from a specialist manufacturer with more than 25 years in the industry - which service the dry stack racks of Sydney Harbour Boat Storage. The fuelling operation is the most serious on the recreational harbour: diesel and premium unleaded 95 pumped at up to 80 litres per minute for ordinary customers, plus five commercial-grade bunker dispensers capable of 200 to 1,000 litres per minute for commercial vessels, with water and sullage pumps at the wharf and fendering suited to vessels up to 6,000 tonnes and 70 metres. A pump-out facility is provided. Maintenance services run from antifouling through full mechanical, shipwright, marine electrical and electronics work, with experienced in-house operators and trades and boat care and valeting packages; a hardstand accommodates boats in work. Staff are on site seven days a week. The dry stack pitch targets owners tired of ramps, street parking and mooring logistics: boats are forklifted to and from the water on demand in the heart of the harbour. Wet berthing is limited to about 12 berths at a 26-metre maximum, with power and water. White Bay sits on the Balmain peninsula's southern flank, immediately inside the harbour's main channel, so the approach is deep, unmarked by bars and unaffected by bridges - vessels of almost any recreational size can come straight in, which is precisely why the yard can advertise safe deep-water access to 70-metre craft. The only navigational wrinkle is shipping: cruise ship movements at the adjacent terminal and commercial traffic off Glebe Island mean keeping a proper lookout in the bay. By road, access is via Robert Street off Victoria Road, a few minutes from the Anzac Bridge and the CBD. Provisioning and dining are a short hop into Balmain village, whose pubs and cafes line Darling Street, and the heritage-listed White Bay Power Station, slowly being reactivated as a cultural venue, marks the skyline behind the yard. The bay itself is steeped in port history - this was Sydney's ro-ro and container gateway for decades before Port Botany took over - and the remaining working wharves give the area a maritime grit that pleasure-craft precincts elsewhere have lost. For cruising, the location is ideal as a fuelling and service stop: fill at commercial flow rates, then run straight out through the Heads for the coast, or turn upriver towards Parramatta. Racing fleets use the yard heavily before and after the summer series, and the dry stack's regulars treat it as a city-fringe launchpad for harbour days without the mooring or ramp chore. Balmain East and the harbour ferry wharves are close enough that crew changes by public transport are practical, and the yard's reserved parking removes the usual inner-city headache for owners driving in with gear.
