About Wyndham Harbour Marina
Completed in 2015, Wyndham Harbour is the newest marina on Port Phillip and the only protected harbour along the roughly 40 kilometres of bay coastline between Williamstown and Geelong. It sits at Werribee South on the north-western shore, about 30 minutes by road from the Melbourne CBD, and it was built as a complete marina suburb rather than a stand-alone boat basin: waterfront housing and apartments ring the harbour, and the public precinct runs along the boardwalk to the 3030 Waterfront bar and restaurant, Elements Cafe and a mini golf course that keeps the promenade busy with families on weekends. The marina itself holds 150 secure wet berths plus floating berths for personal watercraft, and its market is unashamedly the western suburbs trailer-boat and family-cruiser crowd who previously had to run to Williamstown, St Kilda or Geelong for a serviced berth. The harbour's big selling point is practical: sweeping views back across the bay to the city skyline, an on-water fuel dock that never closes, and a short run to the bay's western fishing grounds. Because the whole facility was purpose-built in one project, the berths, ramp, storage yard and amenities share a coherent modern layout, and the operator runs it as a lifestyle destination as much as a marina, with events on the waterfront lawns through the warmer months. For boaters crossing the bay from the eastern clubs it has also become a convenient overnight destination berth on the western shore Boats up to 20 metres fit the standard berth range, and berth sales and rentals are actively marketed, so the fleet mixes owner-occupiers, lessees and short-stay visitors in roughly equal measure.
Marina facilities
Wet berths come in 10, 12, 13, 15, 18 and 20 metre sizes on floating pontoons, with medium and long-term lease options and casual berthing available; every berth has water and electricity. Personal watercraft get dedicated floating PWC berths, which is still uncommon on Port Phillip. The 24-hour self-service fuel dock dispenses ULP 91 and diesel on the water, so an early start never requires a jerry can run, and a waste pump-out facility handles holding tanks. A private boat ramp inside the harbour serves berth holders and storage customers, backed by a trailer boat storage yard with 24/7 access, meaning owners can keep a boat on its trailer under cover of security and launch whenever the forecast looks right. The maintenance yard takes vessels up to 10 tonnes, with water and power laid on so owners or the marina's on-site contractors can carry out servicing, antifouling and repairs without leaving the precinct. Amenities are run through the Marina Lounge, an exclusive berth-holder space with showers, bathrooms, laundry, NBN Wi-Fi, Netflix and complimentary coffee and fresh towels, and the marina also provides a fish cleaning room, barbecue facilities and complimentary parking. Live weather data and a harbour camera are published online, which is handy for checking conditions before leaving home. Security is pitched at 24/7 with gated, secure berths. On the public side, the precinct's food and drink offering covers the 3030 Waterfront restaurant and bar, Elements Cafe, and the mini golf course, giving crews somewhere to land after a day on the bay.
Local sailing knowledge
By water Wyndham Harbour is 16.8 nautical miles from Docklands, 12.7 from the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria at Williamstown and 13.7 from St Kilda Marina, with the Royal Geelong Yacht Club 20 miles to the south-west and Portarlington 8.9 miles across the bay, which makes it a genuine mid-bay staging point for weekend cruising. The approach is across the shallow north-western corner of Port Phillip, so keep to the marked entrance channel and allow for the sea breeze that builds on summer afternoons; the harbour itself is fully enclosed and quiet in any wind. This end of the bay fishes well for snapper through spring, and whiting and calamari work the shallows toward Point Cook. On shore the context is market gardens, wetlands and one of Victoria's biggest tourism strips: Werribee Open Range Zoo, the Werribee Park Mansion and its formal gardens, and Shadowfax Winery are all within a ten-minute drive, and the Cheetham Wetlands and Point Cook Coastal Park line the coast to the north with walking tracks and bird hides. The RAAF Museum at Point Cook, birthplace of the Air Force, is close by for a wet-day excursion. Provisioning is straightforward with supermarkets at Werribee a short drive away, and the fuel dock means no jerry-run before heading home. For visiting boats the marina's berth booking line and email are answered during office hours, and the waterfront precinct's parking and dining make it an easy rendezvous point for crews driving in from Melbourne's west Williamstown's club marinas and Savages Wharf boatyard lie an hour's sail away for haul-out work, while Geelong offers the nearest alternative fuel and supplies to the south-west.
