Further south you cannot go and still be sailing in New South Wales. Twofold Bay Yacht Club, based at Quarantine Bay a few kilometres south of Eden, holds the distinction of being the southernmost sailing club in the state, and it turns that remoteness into an asset. The bay is described in sailing directories as one of the deepest natural harbours in the world, and the club uses every metre of it, offering genuine deep-water bay racing that draws trailer sailors and keelboats down the Princes Highway from Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. The club describes itself as a family-oriented outfit promoting sailing in a relaxed social atmosphere, welcoming all visitors whether they race or cruise, and the evidence backs the pitch: Canberra Yacht Club crews have been making the annual pilgrimage for decades.
