Sailing club

On the far north coast of New South Wales, where the Tweed River meets the sea beside a basalt headland, Tweed Valley Sailing Club runs one of the most deliberately affordable sailing operations in the state. Its tagline, "Community Sailing on the Tweed River", is not marketing gloss but an accurate job description: the club is organised and run entirely by member volunteers from a base it cheerfully calls the TVSC Container, parked at the Fingal Head Boat Harbour. Where many clubs measure their health in fleet sizes and bar takings, this one measures it in barriers removed. Junior sessions cost five dollars, a season package for young sailors is a flat one hundred, boat hire means you don't need to own anything to get afloat, and a Sail Pass lets a curious non-member sail three times before deciding whether to join. The sailing itself has real depth. Corsairs, Impulses, Lasers and NS14s have long raced on the river, and junior traditions run through Manly Juniors championships and hotly contested club championship heats. The club sits among the Tweed Shire's recognised sporting institutions, alongside the rowing club, the surf life saving movement and the bowlo, which says someth
