Sailing club

Some clubs take their name from the water they sail; this one carries the name of a city roughly thirty kilometres from its launching beach. Maryborough Sailing Club is a volunteer-run, family-oriented dinghy club whose racing has unfolded on Hervey Bay, off the sand at Scarness, since 1929 by its own account. The title is less a map reference than a historical souvenir, kept from an era when the regional city gave the club its identity even though the sailing happened down the coast.
