Sydney Boys High School Sailing AssociationMoore Park, NSWFormally incorporated as The Sydney High School Sailing Association Inc., this is the body that keeps sailing alive at Sydney Boys High School, the academically selective state school at Moore Park. Its stated objective is "the promotion of yachting and sailing" for students and people associated with the school, and it does that job as a genuine community effort: membership extends to current students — whose Australian Sailing fees are covered by the school — along with Old Boys and friends of High, with annual fees deliberately kept to a minimum. The result is one of the more unusual entries in any club directory. This is not a public sailing school or a waterfront clubhouse with its own bar; it is a school sporting association, run by a volunteer Sailing Committee with parent catering and fundraising behind it and coaching largely in the hands of Old Boys who came through the same program. Around fifty boys sail at High in a typical recent season, a number the school reports as gradually growing.
