Sailing club
Sun City Yacht ClubTwo Rocks, WAEvery Australian sailing club keeps a favourite story about itself; Sun City Yacht Club's happens to involve the America's Cup. The club was founded at Two Rocks, roughly sixty kilometres north of Perth, on 11 November 1974, and its best-known founding member was Alan Bond — the entrepreneur who would go on to assemble the Australia II team that lifted the Cup for Australia in 1983. Before that triumph, Bond had originally planned to challenge out of Two Rocks itself, and the waters off Two Rocks and Yanchep watched Southern Cross, trial partner Gretel and Australia I train and compete through the defeated campaigns of 1977 and 1980. Half a century on, the club is very much alive: an Australian Sailing affiliated club and an accredited Discover Sailing Centre operating from the Two Rocks marina, it celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with a White Party on 23 November 2024.
